The community of Gardone Riviera, Italy is made up of 8 small towns. Gardone Sotto and Fasano are on the shore of Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy. Montecucco, Gardone Sopra, Supiane, Morgnaga, and Tresnico are all situated on a hill away from the lake. At the entrance of Valdi Sur, you will find San Michele.
When you take a trip to Lake Garda, then you should try to visit as many of the towns around the lake as you can. Gardone Riviera should definitely not be skipped. Each town has its own piece of history and everything fits together like a puzzle. Thanks to good preservation through the years, each town has buildings and structures dating back centuries.
Hotel Villa Del Sogno
Due to the popularity of this area over holidays and with tourists during season, it has a lot of accommodation options. Hotel Villa del Sogno is a romantic villa that was built at the end of the 19th century in Gardone Riviera. It’s right by the lake and surrounded by a private park. The terrace overlooks the lake and all the pathways that wind through the park, it’s absolutely beautiful! All the rooms have a hairdryer, telephone, satellite TV, air conditioner, minibar, safe and wireless internet. Some of the more expensive rooms have balconies. The beach is about 300 meters away and you can take part in activities such as boating, sailing, windsurfing or waterskiing!
Hotel Savoy Palace
Hotel Savoy Palace is situated in the heart of Gardone Riviera. It re-opened in June 1999 after it was completely renovated. The interior was created using a lot of marble, stone, and precious woods. It has an art nouveau look and feels. You can enjoy spending your evenings in the piano bar or working out in the gymnasium. The main restaurant offers traditional Italian and international dishes, the staff is very friendly and always ready to help if you need anything.
Gardone Riviera, like all the other towns around the lake, has quite a few things for you to do and see. A good place to start is the Hruska Botanical Garden, it’s something the whole family can enjoy together. Professor Arturo Hruska was a dentist and a naturalist. When he arrived in Gardone Riviera he immediately noticed the climate. Between 1910 and 1971 he planted a botanical garden that extended for a bit more than 1.5 hectares. There were plants from every continent and he had more than 500 species. There are small ponds with aquatic plants and a lush forest of bamboo trees. The garden is open from March to October from 9:00 am to 19:00 pm so if you are interested in seeing it, you will have to plan your trip accordingly.
Gardone Riviera Church
The Saint Nicolò Church is another sight that most tourists love to see. It was designed by Paolo Sorantini and was built on the ruins of another building dating back to 1391. The church contains quite a few amazing paintings, so art enthusiasts will truly enjoy a trip to this church. Many of the churches in Italy contain amazing paintings that will take your breath away. It’s a wonderful feeling to be standing in a building with so much history, looking at a painting that was painted years and years ago by someone trying to express themselves visually.
If you are looking for gifts to take home to family and friends, then go into a few of the small shops around Gardone Riviera. If you look hard enough, you will find small treasures, things you don’t often see in the stores at home. Women love Italy, because of the great shoes, clothes, and bags. But for proper clothing shopping you should add a trip to Milan or Rome onto your itinerary.
Apart from being famous for their fashions, Italians also make great food! Visit some of the local restaurants or small cafès for great Italian food. However, if you are traveling on a tight budget, a good tip is to buy pizza slices from the pizzerias instead of spending a lot of money in the more expensive restaurants. Villa Fiordaliso is an elegant restaurant in Gardone Riviera specializing in creative cuisine and local dishes. Trattoria Marietta has a stunning view of the town and they are famous for their homemade pasta, meat, and fish dishes. Both restaurants have a wonderful staff and the atmosphere is great!
